About

Moonshot Space is an Israeli startup building a high-power electromagnetic accelerator to launch orbital cargo and conduct hypersonic tests using electricity instead of chemical propellants.

Mission

Founded in 2024, Moonshot Space is developing a high-power electromagnetic accelerator that can hurl payloads at up to 8 kilometres per second, eliminating the need for onboard propellant. The company is targeting two primary markets: low-cost, rapid-turnaround cargo delivery to orbit and high-cadence hypersonic testing up to Mach 6. Its technology promises to boost the useful payload fraction of small launches from about 4 % to more than 45 %, enabling economical resupply of satellites, private stations and in-orbit manufacturing facilities. Preliminary agreements have already been signed with Italian in-orbit services firm D-Orbit and U.S. refuelling startup Orbit Fab. Moonshot’s first full-scale accelerator is under construction in Caesarea, Israel, and the 32-person team includes veterans from Iron Dome, David’s Sling, JFrog and the Israeli space program. For defence customers, the company aims to shift from one hypersonic test per week to several per day, dramatically reducing cost and schedule. To finance these plans, Moonshot has raised $12 million to date, comprising $11 million in equity and a $1 million grant from the Israel Innovation Authority. Rather than compete with full rocket launches, the startup intends to serve as a complementary logistics link for sub-scale payloads and on-orbit refuelling missions.
