About

Flintu makes the Sidekick: a pocket-sized EDC device that powers phones from AA/C/D batteries, adds ~2 hours via an integrated Li-ion booster, and provides onboard storage up to 64GB.

Mission

Flintu was founded by Evan Stuart and Luke Trevitt after they prototyped a phone-rescue device during a backpacking trip. Its flagship product, the Sidekick, is a pocket-sized everyday-carry that can draw power from external AA/C/D batteries and, in its newer version, includes a built-in Li‑ion booster cell that adds about two hours of charge. The Sidekick also functions as external storage; the article notes storage up to 64GB and the product is offered in multiple capacity tiers. Flintu launched via Kickstarter and has so far raised over $75,000 from backers. The company prices the Sidekick at $49 (8GB) up to $129 (128GB) across its listed variants. The startup is presented as part of a resurgence in Australia’s hardware ecosystem, benefiting from geographic proximity and supply-chain ties to Shenzhen.
