Mission
BDS (Big Data Shopping) was formed in December 2013 when Australian cash-back site Qwibble.com.au and digital coupon site Zippy.com.au joined forces. The company’s core product is the Zippy app, which combines deal discovery with a built-in loyalty program and uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to notify consumers of deals when they are near a retailer. Founders Gerard Doyle, Peter Wakim and Adam Samuel bring experience from DiscountVouchers.co.uk, Quidco.com and NuBricks.com. BDS raised AUD$500,000 in angel funding to accelerate development of its BLE technology and to grow retailer engagement across Brisbane. Management positions the product as a response to gaps in Australian retailers’ online offerings and as the next evolution of daily deals by combining deals with loyalty. Company plans are focused on rolling out an out‑of‑the‑box BLE solution for SME retailers and expanding uptake in its home city.
