About

Lumachain is an AI and blockchain supply-chain platform providing real-time farm-to-fork traceability and plant-floor computer vision for safety, quality, yield, and operational efficiency in meat processing.

Mission

Lumachain is a Sydney, Australia–based AI supply chain platform and a minority female-founded company that aims to improve how food is produced, for good. Its traceability solution tracks the origin, location, and condition of individual items in real time, from farm to table, enabling reduced waste and increased efficiency. The traceability platform is complemented by a Computer Vision AI platform that monitors operations inside food production plants to improve quality, efficiency, and safety. Lumachain recently received a minority investment from Chipotle Mexican Grill. The investment was made through Chipotle’s $100m Cultivate Next venture fund. The amount and specific instrument of the deal were not disclosed in the article. Lumachain builds computer-vision AI systems for meat-processing plants, offering five product categories: safety, yield, quality, efficiency, and traceability. The company installs cameras around plants to identify safety hazards, provide real-time coaching alerts to supervisors, and enable farm-to-fork traceability. Founded in 2018 by CEO Jamila Gordon, Lumachain aims to become the industry standard for beef, chicken, and pork production globally. It currently operates in eight countries and says its technology captures just under 50% of the U.S. meat supply; its global headcount is over 100. The company plans to use new funding to accelerate its platform internationally and scale its U.S. team to about 30 people over the next year. Lumachain has raised $22M to date, including a $2.5M seed in July 2019 and a $19.5M Series A announced today. Lumachain provides a blockchain platform that tracks the origin, location and condition of items in food supply chains in real time. The system is designed to ensure products come from ethically responsible sources and to help identify and prevent modern slavery. Founder and chief Jamila Gordon says ""the global supply chains are broken."" The company describes tracking a product from farm, through transportation and processing, to overseas warehouses and retail. Lumachain was founded in April 2018 and is based in Australia. The company has recently secured $3.5 million in funding to develop and deploy its platform.
