121cast builds SoundGecko, a product that grabs blogs and any online text and reads it back in audio form. The product launched out of Startup Alley at TechCrunch Disrupt SF. As of public launch the site had 24,000 users and 2,000 listens per day, growing to 35,500 users and 2,500 listens per day; new features include PDF conversion, additional voice options, and a listening window. The service is available on iOS and Windows Phone, with Android in development. The company plans to offer fully personalized feeds combining news, weather, traffic, calendar, social updates, and music. Management says the funding will support team growth, accelerate product development, and target Asia-Pacific expansion.
