Mission

Kite Magnetics develops high-performance electric motors for small- to medium-sized aircraft using patented nanocrystalline magnetic materials. In conjunction with Monash University the team developed Aeroperm, a nanocrystalline core material that can cut power loss by up to tenfold and could enable motors up to 50% lighter without sacrificing torque or efficiency. The company has built early working prototypes and a proprietary manufacturing process to address brittleness and flatness issues of thin ribbon nanocrystalline cores. Its motors are designed to be compatible with both battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains, targeting decarbonisation of aviation. The team is led by Dr Richard Parsons, who leverages decades of research in advanced magnetic materials and electric motor design. Kite positions itself to address a market need for lighter, more efficient motors as airlines, regulators, and new aircraft OEMs push toward lower-emission flight.
