About
Okendo provides Shopify merchants tools to collect, manage, and display customer ratings, reviews, photos/videos, Q&A, and standardized first-party customer data to enable personalized cross-channel shopping experiences.
Mission
Okendo enables merchants to collect high-impact customer content—product ratings and reviews, customer-generated photos and videos, questions and answers, and individual customer data like preferences and behaviors—and showcase that content on sites and social media. The company primarily serves over 5,000 direct-to-consumer Shopify merchants, with customers such as Skims, Haus, Crunchyroll, Magic Spoon, Frame, Nomad, Buck Mason and Liquid Death. Recent tests showed shoppers interacting with Okendo’s tools had a 2.5x higher conversion rate and a 15% higher average order value. Founded in 2019 after evolving from VidTitan, Okendo doubled its annual recurring revenue over the last 12 months and employs 83 people across Australia and the United States. The new funding will be used to accelerate go-to-market and product development, with releases planned for the end of 2022, and to support expansion following its early-2021 move into North America. Management plans to add about 50 roles across engineering, sales and marketing. Okendo provides a product that helps brands collect, manage and showcase customer ratings, reviews, user-generated media and product questions for Shopify sellers. The company is positioning itself to expand beyond reviews into broader cross-channel first-party customer data management, standardizing that data to enable more personalized shopping experiences. CEO Matthew Goodman says changes like Apple’s App Tracking Transparency and Google’s move away from third-party cookies have accelerated merchant demand for first-party data solutions. Okendo grew rapidly in 2020, tripling ARR and doubling headcount, and was profitable and bootstrapped at the time of its raise. Today it serves more than 3,500 DTC brands in the Shopify network, including customers such as Netflix, Lego, Skims, Fanjoy and Crunchyroll. The startup plans to enter two new product areas over the next 12 months.
