About

Cell Biosciences develops and sells instrumentation, sample-preparation systems, assays and software for proteomic and genomic research, enabling protein analysis and biomarker discovery for academic and industry labs.

Mission

Cell Biosciences develops instrumentation systems, sample preparation systems, software, and assay products for proteomic and genomic research. The company focuses on tools for protein analysis and biomarker discovery. It raised $4M in an equity financing led by Novo A/S. Concurrently, Cell Biosciences completed an all‑stock acquisition of Protein Forest, adding the digital ProteomeChip product line to its expanding portfolio for protein analysis. The company is based in Santa Clara, California, employs approximately 100 people across North America, Europe and Asia, and sells products in more than 40 countries. The transaction combines Protein Forest’s sample‑preparation technology with Cell Biosciences’ instrumentation and assay offerings to broaden its proteomics product set. Cell Biosciences develops protein-analysis technology used to track cellular pathways. Its products are sold to labs and research institutions developing medications and chemical diagnostics for cancer, diabetes and other diseases. The company plans to launch an updated version of its technology at the end of this month. A previous version has been on the market since 2007; the update is said to be cheaper to manufacture, more compact and faster to use. The Palo Alto, Calif. company raised $10 million in a third round of funding to support the launch. The financing was led by Wellcome Trust and included Domain Associates, Latterell Venture Partners, Mitsui Ventures, Novo A/S, Royal Bank of Canada and Vertical Group; Cell Biosciences has now raised $50.5 million to date.
