Mission

Advanced Navigation is a Sydney-based developer of AI robotics and navigation technology solutions, founded in 2012 by Xavier Orr and Chris Shaw to commercialize university research on AI-based inertial navigation. The company provides robotic and navigation products that leverage AI neural networks and deep learning across inertial sensors, underwater acoustics, GNSS antennas and receivers, radio frequency systems, robotics, and quantum-enhanced inertial navigation. Its sensor products are sold into commercial and defense industries spanning sea, land, air, and space and have been adopted by large technology companies and defense prime contractors. The company intends to use recent funding to accelerate R&D programs focused on robotic, navigation, photonic, and quantum sensing solutions. It also plans to enhance global sales and marketing capabilities and assess inorganic growth opportunities to incorporate complementary technologies and products. A recent Series B brought the company's total capital raised to more than US$85M. Advanced Navigation develops ultra-precise, AI-driven navigation and sensor systems that are smaller, more accurate, reliable and significantly cheaper than incumbent products. Its AI algorithms enable new capabilities for self-driving cars, robotics, autonomous drones, submersibles and applications across aerospace, automotive, defence, marine and subsea. Customers include car manufacturers, defence companies and multinational organizations such as NASA, Boeing, Airbus and Tesla, as well as racing teams like Wild Oats XI and Oracle Team USA. The company has a large research facility in Perth and maintains sales offices around the world. In November 2019 it completed a $13M Series A to support its growth. Advanced Navigation intends to use the proceeds for global expansion and to accelerate R&D programs for transformative robotics, navigation and sensor technologies.
