About
Koala is a timeshare rental marketplace that verifies listings, secures transactions via Stripe, pays hosts after guest check-in, and targets driving-destination inventory in Arizona, Florida, California and South Carolina.
Mission
Koala operates a marketplace focused on the timeshare rental market, aiming to make timeshare units easier to list, discover and rent. The platform verifies each listing, secures transactions through Stripe and only pays hosts after guests check in, and it charges timeshare owners 8–10% per sale. Koala was founded by Mike Kennedy and has Sean Stewart, a former Expedia and Airbnb vacation-rentals executive, on its board. The company planned to use its seed funding to drum up inventory and marketing but paused aggressive expansion when COVID-19 hit. With a small core team it delayed launch, worked on SEO and content, and is now launching domestically in driving destinations. Koala is targeting inventory in Arizona, South Carolina, Florida and California and is eyeing Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii and Japan for future expansion.
