What we're building
Butter Insurance is a Sydney-based insurtech building digital-first insurance products for modern life and travel. The company offers travel insurance and single-item (tech) insurance that can be purchased and managed online, with single-item cover for devices and valuables available shortly after purchase. Butter’s platform provides subscription-style, single-item policies, a central web app for policy and claim management, and checkout-embedded purchase flows designed for retailers and direct consumers. Since its founding during 2021–2022, Butter has participated in Startmate’s Winter cohort and raised pre-seed funding to scale its product and partnerships. The business has announced integrations and partnerships across Australian payments and retail channels, including collaborations with payment and embedded-insurance partners, and has positioned its product to serve Australian consumers and travellers with digital, low-friction cover and online claims management.
The problem
Many consumers — especially younger buyers and renters — lack affordable, easy-to-purchase cover for single high-value items and travel. Traditional insurers and distribution channels often require complex products or long commitments; Butter solves this by delivering single-item and travel cover as a quick, digital, subscription-style purchase at checkout and via a central app.
Why now
Consumer demand for digital, embedded insurance at the point of sale is rising, and advances in payments and API-driven integrations make checkout-embedded cover practical. Participation in accelerator programs and recent pre-seed funding have given Butter the runway and industry partnerships to commercialise embedded single-item and travel products in Australia.
