About

Ohmie operates an app-based residential electric car-sharing service offering hourly/daily Hyundai Kona rentals with in-building charging, collecting usage data and planning expansion to other buildings and vehicle types.

Mission

Ohmie is an Australian startup that has launched what it calls the country’s first residential electric car-sharing service. The company, formerly Symbiot Technology, piloted the service at EQ Towers in Melbourne in partnership with Hyundai and EV charging company Jet Charge under an initiative called ""Ohmie Go"". Residents can book Hyundai Kona electric SUVs via smartphone, borrow cars by the hour or day, return and charge them in their building’s underground garage, and the company plans to use renewable energy for charging within a month. Pricing has not been fixed but is expected to be around $15 per hour with no extra distance charges, which Ohmie says is cheaper than nearby rental options. Ohmie is collecting data from the EQ Towers launch to test its business model, enhance customer experience, and create value for developer clients. Longer-term plans include expanding Kona placements to other large residential buildings and experimenting with electric motorbikes, scooters, co‑working spaces, commercial buildings, and holiday resorts.
