Mission
ARENA awarded Renewable Energy Hub $845,000 to help create a suite of new hedge contracts and a world‑first online trading marketplace tailored to renewable generation and storage. The project targets variable renewables (wind, solar), batteries and demand response, and aims to reflect the ‘shape’ of renewable generation rather than traditional flat 24‑hour baseload contracts. The marketplace will provide data and tools to support energy price discovery, evaluate trading options and minimise transaction costs. New hedge contracts are intended to provide revenue certainty for renewable projects, helping them secure financing. Energy retailers and large customers are expected to benefit from access to standardised firm contracts for clean energy. ARENA and Renewable Energy Hub say the work could unlock new revenue pathways, underpin new investment, and put downward pressure on the price of new renewable energy and grid‑scale storage projects.
