About

Cohda Wireless develops V2X radio hardware and software—including MAC/PHY firmware, security features, and application stacks—enabling vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure safety and traffic-management communications, integrated with automotive chipsets.

Mission

Cohda Wireless builds V2X software stacks and applications that enable direct vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication for automotive safety and traffic information. Its MAC/PHY firmware is integrated into NXP's RoadLINK chipset family and the combined solution includes hardware security to protect against hacking and cyber-attacks. The company's software is being adopted in industry programs — it is used in more than 60% of test vehicles in global V2X field trials and was tested successfully by Audi under real traffic conditions. Cohda's stacks are slated for use in Delphi's V2X communications platform that the article says will enter the market within two years. NXP's expanded investment is intended to accelerate global adoption of V2X technology and improve road safety and traffic flow. The article does not provide revenue, user, or other operating metrics. Cohda Wireless builds radio-based hardware and software solutions that allow cars to wirelessly communicate with one another and with infrastructure to prevent collisions and alert drivers to hazards. Its technology combines radio communications and smart sensors to enable vehicle-to-vehicle and car-to-infrastructure applications such as traffic‑signal warnings, collision alerts, rerouting to avoid congestion, and emissions reductions through changed traffic patterns. Cohda claims its systems could potentially prevent over 80 percent of crash scenarios, reducing injuries and fatalities. To drive adoption, a dozen European carmakers agreed to install its solutions into various lines beginning in 2015, and the company was testing integration in Detroit with eight U.S. carmakers. Cisco and NXP have entered a strategic partnership with Cohda to help bring the technology to market, with NXP supplying semiconductor and chip expertise and Cisco providing networking and Internet infrastructure capabilities. Both partners conducted extensive due diligence, and NXP’s general manager said Cohda’s technology is “by far the best.”
