About

Stake is a commission-free online brokerage providing retail investors access to thousands of U.S. stocks and ETFs, ASX CHESS-sponsored trading, available in UK, Brazil, New Zealand, and planning crypto.

Mission

Stake is a Sydney-based fintech that operates an online brokerage for Australian investors in U.S. stocks. Founded in 2017 by Matt Leibowitz and Dan Silver, the company has launched an ASX platform offering $3 CHESS-sponsored trades and is slated to enter the crypto space shortly. Since launch, Stake has attracted over 500,000 customers and holds more than $2 billion in funds under administration. The company announced an initial $40m Series A in May 2021; the current Series A extension added $50m to bring total Series A proceeds to $90m. Investors named in the Series A include Tiger Global and DST Global Partners. Stake is a commission-free trading app providing retail investors zero-brokerage access to over 4,400 U.S. stocks and ETFs. The app is available in the U.K., Brazil and New Zealand and was the first in Australia to offer commission-free access to the U.S. market. Since launching in the U.K. in early 2020, Stake says its total customer base has grown more than sixfold and now exceeds 330,000 customers globally, with average month-on-month customer growth of 25%. Founder and CEO Matt Leibowitz says the company was self-funded for its first four years and has proven its model. Stake plans to expand its product and bring its zero-brokerage service to more retail investors, using recent funding to enter additional European markets. In the U.K. it competes with platforms such as eToro, Libertex, Fineco, Plus500 and IG.
