About
Bearhug produces reusable netting systems that secure pallet stacks as an alternative to single-use plastic wrap, servicing businesses that wrap pallets via sales and pooling/hire models with return logistics.
Mission
Bearhug develops a reusable netting system that secures pallet stacks as an alternative to single-use plastic pallet wrap. The Sydney startup was founded in January 2023 by Tom Field and Max Higgins and is based in Belrose on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. It began working with craft brewers and has expanded to serve any business that wraps pallets, signing more than 70 businesses as clients in its first 18 months. Bearhug says its reusable wraps are stronger than plastic wrap, reduce breakages, can be applied faster with less effort, and are 10x cheaper over a 1,000-use life with a typical six-month payback. The company reports it has already prevented more than 4 tonnes of plastic wrap from reaching landfill and aims to replace 2.8 million tonnes of annual pallet wrap waste. The current funding will be used to expand a pooling/hire model and address return-logistics challenges for larger companies and Australian FMCG customers.
