About

Bandicoot Imaging Sciences builds fabric digitization technology and cloud software that captures physical textiles, computes BRDF-based, physically accurate 3D textures and delivers true-to-life, relightable, multi-angle views for e-commerce.

Mission

Bandicoot Imaging Sciences builds fabric digitisation technology that captures physical fabrics and materials to produce accurate 3D textures and digital twins for textile and fashion use. The solution is designed to handle challenging materials such as metallic threads and satin finishes whose appearance varies with viewpoint. The company aims to accelerate adoption of Digital Product Creation (DPC) by making it faster and more accurate to digitise fabrics. Founders and engineers who worked together in Canon Australia’s R&D arm cofounded the startup. The team plans to use new capital to scale fabric digitisation services across textile supply chains and expand a cloud-based platform with added capabilities. Management says the funding validates the technology’s value to customers, partners and the fashion industry. Bandicoot Imaging Sciences develops digital technology that creates interactive 3D fabric models so buyers can see how materials look under different lighting and from multiple angles. Its core product uses a physically-based model and a Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) to describe how light interacts with material. Bandicoot’s software processes images quickly and delivers these true-to-life views back to online sellers. The company says the technology aims to address high return rates in fashion e-commerce — nearly 30% of online clothes purchases are returned. The recent funding will be used to further develop the product and bring it to market. Coverage describes Bandicoot as an Australian start-up.
