About

Deputy is a cloud-based, mobile-first workforce management platform for shift-driven businesses offering scheduling, timesheets, task and communication tools, auto-optimized rosters, and one-click payroll integrations, operating globally.

Mission

Deputy is an Australian software company that builds workforce-management tools focused on shift-based staff. The product offers modern, tech-based solutions for managing and communicating shift schedules. The company was founded in 2008 by Ashik Ahmed and Steve Shelley after Ahmed's experience working at Hungry Jack's. In 2023 Deputy appointed Silvija Martincevic as CEO while Ahmed transitioned to the board. Deputy reported its first profit in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, with annual revenue exceeding US$100 million. A recent investment has pushed the company's valuation above US$1.1 billion. Deputy provides scheduling, timesheets, task management and workplace communication tools for hourly and shift workers. The company reports 90,000 customers in 80 countries, has scheduled about 200 million shifts (1.2 billion hours) and has facilitated over $30 billion in payroll payments. After eight years of bootstrapping, Deputy raised a $25 million Series A in early 2017 and has since pursued VC to scale. The company is headquartered in Sydney and Atlanta and plans to invest the new capital in engineering and product, building teams in both headquarters. Co-founder and CEO Ashik Ahmed declined to disclose the valuation and attributes recent rapid growth to investor support and broader changes in the world of work. Deputy provides a cloud-based, mobile-first workforce management platform that simplifies scheduling, timesheets, tasking and one-click payroll integration for shift-driven businesses. The product lets managers auto-optimize schedules by role and hours and is used by more than 28,000 customers in 73 countries, including Amazon, Qantas, Nike and NASA. Founded in 2008, Deputy operates offices in Sydney and Atlanta and also has locations in Los Angeles, the United Kingdom and the Philippines. Until this raise the company had been entirely bootstrapped and has grown over eight years. Deputy plans to use new funding to rapidly expand its team across its global offices and to further scale its platform. The company positions itself to address large, growing hourly labor markets such as hospitality, retail, senior living and on-demand services.
