Mission

Glaciem has developed a low‑cost thermal energy storage technology that stores and discharges energy via a heat‑transfer process using a special material at temperatures tailored to specific HVAC&R applications. The system uses natural refrigerants rather than common synthetic refrigerants and includes an advanced control and forecasting system that optimises operation using weather, electricity‑price and customer‑demand forecasts. Glaciem has been working with the University of South Australia to develop the technology and plans to demonstrate commercial viability through pilot deployments. The company will trial systems at food, agriculture and tourism sites to reduce energy costs and emissions and to better integrate on‑site solar PV generation. The project aims to commercialise previous ARENA‑funded research and show integration with grid supply and on‑site renewables can be reliable across diverse commercial customers. Financially, the demonstration is being supported by ARENA funding as part of a larger $4.95 million project budget.
