About

Sugar operates the PopSugar flagship and a women-focused commerce and content network including ShopStyle, OnSugar, FitSugar, PetSugar, and BuzzSugar, plus acquisitions and a digital entertainment division.

Mission

Sugar operates PopSugar as its flagship site and runs a portfolio of properties including social shopping site ShopStyle, blogging platform OnSugar, and topical blogs such as FitSugar, PetSugar, and BuzzSugar. The network draws about 20 million visitors per month across its sites. The company has been profitable for the last year. Sugar has pursued acquisitions (it bought virtual fashion assistant MyPerfectSale last October) and aims to extend its brand and expand internationally. Since its founding in 2006 the company has raised $46 million in total. The business focuses on commerce- and content-driven experiences targeted exclusively to women. Sugar is a blog and media network. The company operates sites generating nearly 100 million monthly page views. CEO Brian Sugar says the company is now profitable; he would not disclose current revenue, though the company was doing around $15 million in annual revenue a year earlier. Sugar has 97 employees. The company acquired Los Angeles-based Shopflick, a video-powered fashion marketplace founded by Patrick Yee in 2007; Shopflick raised $7 million last year and brought on David Grant as CEO. Sugar plans to expand the brand into online video, television, film, videogames and other content formats via a new division called Sugar Digital Entertainment.
