Mission
Lynas is a leading producer of rare-earths outside China, supplying critical inputs for tech, defense, and low-carbon energy. The group raised $488 million (A$750 million) via a capital increase in Sydney to accelerate development. Proceeds will fund the expansion of a mine in Malaysia and the construction of a refining plant. Lynas also plans to take equity stakes in U.S. permanent-magnet producers. The move aims to reduce global dependence on China, which extracts over 60% of rare-earth ore, refines more than 90% and makes nearly 95% of permanent magnets. The company is positioning itself to serve demand from electric-vehicle motors, wind turbines, and defense systems.
