NOJA Power is an Australian energy-technology company that designs and manufactures medium-voltage outdoor switchgear from its factory in Brisbane. The company is developing smart switchgear with integrated phasor monitoring units that capture voltage, current and phase-angle data at frequencies up to 100 times greater than typical SCADA systems. With ARENA funding, NOJA will build new protection, control and monitoring firmware and deploy 100 units across Queensland and Victoria where renewable penetration is high. The project emphasizes collaboration, with captured data to be shared with ARENA, AEMO, Deakin University, the University of Queensland, AusNet and Energy Queensland. NOJA has a long history of R&D and collaboration with utilities and government agencies and says its equipment is in service in 86 countries. The company positions the technology as improving grid visibility and stability to enable greater renewable integration and potential export opportunities.
