About
Solcast provides high-resolution weather forecasts for solar and wind, delivering gridded nowcasts (5-minute, 1–2 km) up to six hours, ingesting farm and historical meteorological streams to support grid operations.
Mission
Solcast builds high-resolution weather forecasting and modelling tools tailored to the solar and wind energy industry. The company is developing a gridded nowcasting demonstration that will predict renewable output up to six hours ahead in five-minute increments across 1–2 km grids in South Australia. The tool will track cloud evolution and nacelle-level wind speeds to improve short-term generation forecasts and support grid operations, storage and demand response. Solcast will ingest historical surface meteorological data plus wind and solar farm weather streams and share outputs with project partners Weatherzone and TESLA Asia Pacific. AEMO and SA Power Networks will test and assess the forecasts to support operational use. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Australia with offices in Sydney, Canberra and Glasgow, Solcast serves about 6,000 users worldwide. The company previously received ARENA support as part of a $9 million short-term forecasting round to deploy self-forecasting trials at solar farms.
