About
GenAqua is a healthtech startup that makes a compact UVC-LED device to disinfect water directly at the tap for hospitals and other facilities.
Mission
Founded in 2023 and headquartered at the Cohort Innovation Space in Southport, GenAqua develops a point-of-use water disinfection system that uses a compact UVC LED module mounted on taps to kill bacteria that centralised treatment often misses. The device is remotely monitored to ensure the correct radiation dose, aiming to cut hospital-acquired infections and save health providers millions in avoidable costs. Current efforts include an approved in-facility trial with Queensland Health’s Metro North Public Health Unit and work toward Watermark certification. The startup was named Startup of the Year in the 2025 LX Health LuminaX Accelerator cohort. Proceeds from its recent pre-seed round will fund certification, manufacturing preparation and trial support. GenAqua is also assessing opportunities in South-East Asian hotels that need protection against waterborne illnesses. Management plans to open its next capital raise in June 2026 to support scaling and broader market expansion.
