About
Cauldron operates a continuous precision‑fermentation CDMO, running sustained multi‑thousand‑liter continuous fermenters in New South Wales, feeding productive microbes into downstream vessels to express target molecules.
Mission
Cauldron builds a continuous (rather than batch) precision-fermentation platform that keeps microbes in a productive state and feeds them into ancillary vessels to express target molecules. The company operates a 25,000-L demo-scale facility in New South Wales and has run a 10,000-L production system continuously for more than eight months without contamination or genetic drift. It works with six demo-scale clients, including Nourish Ingredients and Eden Brew, and says its dairy customer already beats the cost per kilo of a 500,000-L batch fermentation. Cauldron raised a AUD9.5 million Series A in March led by Horizons Ventures and is currently raising a Series B while pursuing non-dilutive government funding. The firm was formed in early 2023 from the assets of Agritechnology and has appointed Dr. David Weiner as CTO; Weiner is based in San Diego and the company cites global ambitions. Management plans to build larger facilities in Australia and potentially the US and targets reducing cost of goods to roughly $15–20 per kilo to unlock broader markets. Cauldron Ferm develops continuous ""hyper-fermentation"" technology to produce high-value ingredients with lower costs and higher output than traditional batch fermentation. Its platform is built on 35 years of R&D and has been demonstrated at an industrially relevant scale. The company targets applications in biofuels, agriculture, cosmetics and chemicals and aims to deliver price parity for commodity bio-products. Cauldron Ferm plans to build a 500,000-liter facility and expand a network of precision fermentation facilities globally. The business secured Series A funding to accelerate industrial-scale production and unlock manufacturing capacity for the precision fermentation industry. Founded in 2022, the company is positioning itself as a manufacturing partner for customers seeking more sustainable and cost-effective ingredient production. Cauldron develops a precision fermentation manufacturing platform and operates as a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) enabling partners to produce high-value ingredients via a continuous process. Its core approach keeps microbes in a productive state and feeds them into ancillary vessels where they express target molecules, which the company says yields about five-times more product per fermenter than traditional batch processes. Cauldron currently runs two 10,000-liter fermentation lines with downstream processing in Orange, New South Wales, and has sustained continuous fermentation for eight months and 24 days at 10,000 liters. The company plans to scale to five 100,000-liter lines by 2025 and intends to build 500,000-liter facilities co-located with feedstock or beneficial infrastructure to access cheaper inputs. Cauldron acquired precision fermentation IP and equipment from Agritechnology on March 8, 2023 and is positioning itself as a regional production hub for the Asia‑Pacific. It has secured an A$528,000 government grant for a feasibility study in Mackay and plans to open a Series A early next year to fund further expansion.
