MicroTau is a Sydney startup that produces large, lightweight adhesive stickers printed with microscopic three-dimensional “riblets” inspired by sharkskin. The riblets are designed to be applied to aircraft skin to reduce wind drag by as much as 12 percent. A similar reduction in drag is said to translate into comparable jet-fuel savings for airlines.
