About

Fremantle Seaweed cultivates Asparagopsis red seaweed as a feed additive to cut methane emissions from cattle.

Mission

Fremantle Seaweed is an ocean-technology and aquaculture company in Western Australia dedicated to growing Asparagopsis, a native red seaweed shown to sharply reduce methane produced by ruminants when mixed into their feed. The firm runs a 32-hectare longline aquaculture site in Cockburn Sound equipped with hatchery and harvesting infrastructure, and is exploring an even larger site in the state’s North-West Hub for future scale-up. To validate commercial viability, the company is preparing a 400-day feedlot trial with 60 cattle that will gather performance and emissions data under real-world conditions. Fremantle Seaweed has a commercial agreement with FutureFeed, the IP holder for Asparagopsis use in livestock feed, which supports broader industry collaboration. Market momentum for low-emission animal protein and Australia’s coastal advantages underpin the company’s growth strategy. The recent seed capital will fund production expansion, additional R&D, and infrastructure build-out as it transitions from pilot to commercial operations.
